As the weeks go by the exhibition in May draws ever closer. With this in mind I have been focusing on my printing and darkroom work in the hope of getting some final images started. I am extremely happy with the films I have already shot and with my trip next week I hope to shoot more.
For now I have been working mainly in two different sizes of papers Ilford 8 x 10 inches and Ilford 12 x 16 inches, both are a matt finish which is my favourite type of finish for final images. I find the matt finish gives the black a such a rich velvet tones and brings out the brightness of the whites and tones of grey which is something that I desire from each print.
Toning prints is something that I have done for the past year, and selenium toning is my favourite as it further pushes the contrast and tones to create even more depth in the images. The tonal aspect of printing is key because it draws the viewer into my work and into those fine details surrounded by the blurred outlines.
I am really excited to start printing with my large paper (20 x 24 inches) and see these beautiful contrasts in larger scale.
