I recently took a trip to Hafod estate to view the church there. The Church belonged to part of the Cistercian monks’ land back when Strata Florida was the heart of the religious community. The church itself is in pretty good condition and in a very rural location. There has been serval renovations and rebuilds but inside there is some artefacts from the past that link well to Start Florida.
Again I went there with a trio of cameras, film, digital and polaroid, trying to capture it in the best way possible. I became at awe with the detail and beautiful patterns that became carved into the grave stones that i started shooting with these as my inspiration. I began then to think about why some graves would be more ornate than others. It all boiled down to money at the end of the day.
I shot 3 films and a polaroid and a couple of digital shots for reference. I get this trip really inspired me as i found a n
ew aspect of detail and beauty within religion whilst here. We are still prone to ornate the headstones of those deceased, is this to give us comfort in their passing? or is it to show off the wealth that we had/have?
